The influence of drugs when it comes to writing music is nothing new. But Fleet Foxes‘ Robin Pecknold could be the first musician inspired by nicotine patches.
The frontman has revealed that wearing patches during the writing and recording of the band’s second album ‘Helplessness Blues’ led to a string of “insane dreams” which in turn played a part in the creation of the Seattle-based outfit’s forthcoming single ‘Grown Ocean’.
Asked by the NME about the song’s dream-like quality, Pecknold explained, “Yeah. If you use a nicotine patch it can give you really insane dreams, really vivid and real. It kinda got to the point where I’d put a nicotine patch on before going to bed to see what would happen.”
